A travel doula is a postpartum doula or newborn care specialist who comes along on your trip, or meets you at your destination, to help with the baby, including overnight, so you can actually rest and enjoy the time away. For Arizona families, the options fall into three groups: local doula practices that travel with you, national agencies that place a caregiver wherever you are going, and Valley nanny agencies that cover hotel and resort stays close to home.

1. Doulas of the Valley

Our travel doula service exists for families who do not want to leave a new baby at home, or who want a trip that is actually restful. One of our traveling postpartum doulas comes with you, for a few days or a few weeks, to help with the newborn and with older children too.

It works best with familiarity. If you have had our postpartum doula care at home first, the doula on the trip can already know your baby’s feeding and sleep patterns before you leave. We are a mother-daughter team founded by Debbie Aglietti Forbes, and our doulas are certified and nurse-informed.

2. Well Supported Family

Well Supported Family has a local Arizona team covering Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and much of Maricopa County, and a separate travel team. Its site says the travel team supports families outside the Phoenix area who want longer schedules, including live-in care, and that it can often support families nationwide.

This is less "come on vacation with us" and more "bring trained help to wherever you are staying", which suits a long stay with family, a seasonal home, or a move.

3. The Newborn Care Solutions Agency

The Newborn Care Solutions Agency is a Scottsdale-based referral agency. Its travel page describes placing specialists who travel with families for vacations, relocations, extended stays and business trips, including families who split time between homes.

It suggests reaching out four to eight weeks ahead for domestic travel and eight to twelve weeks for international trips or busy seasons, which is sensible advice whoever you book with.

4. Absolute Best Care (Baby Nurses America)

Round-the-clock live-in newborn care while traveling

Absolute Best Care is a New York agency whose newborn care division, Baby Nurses America, places newborn care specialists. Its site says 24-hour live-in care is available nationwide, including domestic and international travel, and that its specialists travel throughout the United States and abroad.

For an Arizona family, that makes it a live-in option only: its shorter day and night shifts are limited to the tri-state area.

5. A Caring Nanny

A Caring Nanny is a Scottsdale agency that places night nannies and newborn care specialists. Its temporary nanny page lists hotel and resort stays among the situations it covers, alongside weddings and events.

If your "trip" is a long weekend at a Valley resort or a family wedding in Arizona, a local agency like this can be simpler than arranging travel for a caregiver. Ask specifically for someone with newborn experience.

Questions to ask before you book

Who covers travel, lodging and meals?

Most travel caregivers expect the family to cover flights, accommodation and food. Ask exactly what is expected, whether your caregiver needs their own room, and how days off work on a longer trip.

What will the daily and nightly schedule look like?

Agree in advance on overnight hours, daytime hours and rest breaks. A tired caregiver is not what you are paying for, and a clear schedule protects everyone.

Where will the baby sleep?

The American Academy of Pediatrics’ safe sleep guidance applies on the road: baby on their back for every sleep, on a firm, flat surface, with no pillows, blankets or bumpers. The AAP also says that if a baby falls asleep in a car seat, stroller or carrier, they should be moved to a firm sleep surface as soon as possible. Have you met my baby?

A caregiver who has spent a few shifts with your baby at home will be far more useful on day one of a trip than a stranger. If you can, book a few local sessions first.
