Doulas of the Valley publishes this list, and we have ranked ourselves first. We offer adoption doula support, so read the order as our opinion; the others are here because families ask about them, and you should check each one yourself.
An adoption doula is a postpartum doula who supports adoptive parents in the first days and weeks with a new baby: newborn care, feeding, sleep, and the steady reassurance that you are doing this well. In Arizona, only a handful of doula practices name adoption or intended-parent support on their websites, so this list is short on purpose. We would rather show you four real options than pad it.
Adoption also involves a birth parent, whose experience matters just as much. The support on this list is for the adoptive family after placement. A birth parent may have their own doula, counselor or agency support, and the timing of everything is theirs and your agency’s to set, not a doula’s.
If you are growing your family through surrogacy, the same kind of help applies, and we have included teams that say they support intended parents.

Our adoption doula support brings the same postpartum and newborn care skills we use every day in Arizona to adoptive families. Adoption often moves on a timeline nobody fully controls, and many parents have far less time to prepare than a pregnancy would give them. We help you learn feeding, bathing, soothing and sleep with a real baby in your arms, so the confidence comes quickly.
Because an adoption can mean a birth in another city or state, our travel doula support can matter here too. Once you are home, our postpartum doula care, including overnight support, gives you room to rest and bond. We are a mother-daughter team founded by Debbie Aglietti Forbes.

Well Supported Family has a page written specifically for intended parents and surrogacy. It describes overnight newborn care and 24/7 live-in care, and says its newborn care specialist can meet you at the hospital, nearby accommodations, or when you arrive home.
Its Arizona team covers Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and much of Maricopa County, and its site says it works with a wide range of family structures, including two moms, two dads and single parents.
3. Sol Doula Services
Adoptive families in Tucson and Southern Arizona

- Serves Tucson and Southern Arizona
- Spanish-language support offered
Sol Doula Services is a Tucson postpartum doula practice. Its home page says it offers care after birth and adoption, and that it supports all parents, including adoptive parents, LGBTQ+ families, fathers and teen parents.
It also offers support in Spanish, which matters to many Southern Arizona families.
4. Modern Mama Doula Services
Phoenix Valley families through surrogacy who want a large team to choose from
- Postpartum doula and newborn care, plus birth doula support and classes
- Serves the Phoenix Valley, including Scottsdale and Paradise Valley
- Team page lists a postpartum doula experienced with babies born through surrogacy
Modern Mama is a large Phoenix Valley doula team. It does not list adoption as a separate service, but its team page describes one of its postpartum doulas as experienced with babies born from surrogacy, same-sex couples, twins and premature babies.
If you go this route, ask for that doula by name, or ask which of their postpartum doulas have supported adoptive families.
Other routes to good support
If none of the above fits your location or situation, you still have good options:
- Ask your adoption agency, attorney or surrogacy agency. They see many families through placement and usually know which local doulas and newborn care specialists have done this before.
- Ask the hospital. If you know where the baby will be born, the hospital’s social worker or family services team can explain its policies for adoptive and intended parents.
- Interview general postpartum doulas. Much of what an adoption doula does is newborn care, and many postpartum doulas support adoptive families even if their website does not say so. Ask directly. Our list of the best postpartum doulas in Scottsdale is a starting point.

Questions to ask before you choose
Have you supported adoptive or intended parents before?
Experience matters here. A doula who has done this knows how quickly plans can change and how to support you without making assumptions about your family.
Can you travel if the baby is born out of state?
Many adoptions involve a birth somewhere else, and families may need to stay nearby for a while. Ask whether the doula can travel or meet you there, and who covers travel costs.
How do you help with feeding?
Adoptive families use formula, donor milk, induced lactation or a mix. Your pediatrician sets the feeding plan, and a lactation consultant (IBCLC) can help if you are trying to breastfeed. A doula helps you carry out that plan day to day.
How do you handle sleep?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends placing babies on their back for every sleep, on a firm, flat surface, with no pillows, blankets or bumpers. A good doula follows that guidance and your pediatrician’s advice. Our safe sleep guide has more.
